There is a medical problem that many teenagers are now facing and it wasn’t even an issue until just a few years ago. As a matter of fact, many people have never heard about this particular problem but it is so difficult for those teenagers that it could result in chronic pain that would last a lifetime. It is something that is known as text neck, and if you have never heard about it, you truly are not alone. Although it is not on the tip of everybody’s tongue, however, it is something that is happening more and more frequently and it can have severe consequences if it is not corrected.
There is no doubt that the up-and-coming generation is constantly using their electronic devices. Admittedly, we have all liked technology and many of us have used it for years but the smart phones the children are now using has given rise to a problem that is brand-new. It happens with the neck, where the curvature of the spine does not match where it should be normally and it could have severe consequences, resulting in problems with the intervertebral discs.
Unfortunately, some teenagers are already feeling the pain and it is a problem now but when they get older, it is going to be a problem that could sideline them. There are some ways to correct the problem and as long as you pay attention to what is going on with your health, you can get beyond it and even help your teenagers to get beyond it as well.
This doctor is talking about one particular teenage patient, a 14 year old girl named Sarah, who is experiencing this problem with text neck. She came to his office because she was suffering from some serious pain in her neck and it was also extending down her back as well. This is a classic symptom and you really need to consider the fact that the entire spinal column is attached and a problem in one area could easily affect the entire length.
As we move on to the second picture, you can see that there is a serious problem with the curvature of the spine in her neck. The natural curve of the spine is on the faint red line in the front so you can see that it is actually backward from where it should be. This is something that is known as a reverse curvature and it is a serious problem.
There are ways to counteract this problem and this young girl was going through the different exercises that she must do in order to get her spine back in the proper position again. It has a lot to do with physical therapy, but she is certainly too young to have to go through all of that physical therapy to correct a problem that is associated with looking at her smartphone.
Chiropractic adjustments are also a large part of getting the spine back in its proper position again. It is something that many of us go through, but we tend not to have problems with our spine unless we were in an accident or if we have gotten older. Fortunately, this chiropractor is doing a good job of getting her back on her feet.
The video that you’re going to watch below shows all of the chiropractic adjustment and this can be a little difficult to watch, especially if you are squeamish. It’s not only the fact that he is working her neck and twisting it in order to manipulate the spine, the cracking sounds are enough to give you the heebie-jeebies as well.
Having any correction for this problem will take some time and it may actually only be the beginning of a lifelong process. Looking down at your phone can put your spinal column in an unnatural position and the more you do it, the more you are going to have problems.
There are ways to keep this from happening. We all look at our smartphones but there are apps you can download that tell you if you have been looking down at it too long. It’s a gentle reminder that can help you to keep your neck in good shape so that you don’t have to worry about any chronic pain that you may experience later in life.
You can watch the entire news report in the following video. It’s an excellent reminder that we all should pay close attention to our bodies so we have them for a very long time:
