This DIY Grass Head Is So Much Fun To Do

If there is one thing that most parents of young children appreciate, it’s the fact that they need something to do during the summer months. It is exciting when children get out of school and suddenly they find themselves with a lot of free time on their hands. We often envision our children running in the grass or perhaps playing with each other in their rooms but the reality of the situation is often quite different.

When children are off on summer break, the free time does not always work in their favor. In fact, we may find that they are getting frustrated over the extra time that they have available. Most parents are not willing to simply sit their children in a corner with an electronic device but rather, they want to find something for them to do to keep them occupied and perhaps even stimulated.

If you want to do something with your children that they will truly enjoy, you will love this DIY project. It is reminiscent of the Chia Pets that were on TV a number of years ago. They are very easy to make and when they start sprouting hair, it is perhaps one of the most enjoyable and satisfying things you could ever do in a DIY project with your kids. The supplies that you need are very basic and more than likely, you have a lot of them around your home already. After you put these together, your children will go check on them several times per day and once the magic starts, it is fantastic.

Of course, you don’t need to wait for summer break in order to enjoy this project with your children. Since you are growing it indoors, you can even do it in the middle of the winter. Enjoy the time with your kids.

Googly Eyes
Hot Glue Gun
Mason Jar Lid
Small Elastics

Directions

To start, cut the toe end off of your pantyhose.

Fill the pantyhose with soil and top with grass seeds.

Once you have filled the pantyhose with soil and grass, tie a knot in the top of the pantyhose and dunk it in a bowl of water.

Place the damp grass head in a mason jar lid, pot, small dish or cup.

Using a glue gun, glue 2 googly eyes on your grass head.

Grab a small amount of the grass head and form a nose. Use the small elastic to keep the nose shape in place.

Place your grass head near a window and watch as the grass starts to grow! Make sure to regularly water your pets to prevent the grass from dying.
