The modern world certainly does offer a lot of conveniences, and that includes the appliances that we may use at our home. Some of them are items that we would not do without, and once we use them for a very short amount of time, we couldn’t imagine never using them again. In fact, we just continue to get more appliances because of the convenience they provide.
One of those appliances is the washing machine and this is a necessity in almost every home. Once you have one at your disposal, you will find that is a convenience you do not want to live without. Of course, we could always go out to a laundromat, but when you are able to do the clothes in your own home, it certainly provides you with a degree of convenience that really makes it the only option.
When it comes to appliances, we recognize that they are not going to last forever. In fact, many appliances seem to be built in order to break down and there are so many small parts that we are always fixing them or replacing them in order to have that convenience in our lives. When you really stop to think about it, however, many of those problems tend to occur at the worst possible moment. It can be a financial burden, as well as one that keeps us from using the convenience for a while.
That is true of the washing machine as well as the other appliances in the home. When it comes to a broken washing machine, this little fix is not going to keep it from happening. What it can do, however, is keep your clothes from spelling like mildew after they were washed.
Over time, there is a build up of soap and dirt under the seal of the washing machine. It starts to smell before long and that smell can end up on our clothing. Most of us can easily clean around the rubber seal at the door but we may not be able to get to the rest of the machine. It often results in an expensive call to a professional but this little hack can save you a lot of money.
You only need 16 ounces of white vinegar and some Clorox bleach. Be sure that you never use these two chemicals together because they are incredibly toxic.
Mix the bleach with water in a 1:1 ratio. Wipe down all of the accessible areas with a cloth soaked in that mixture. Be sure you include the rubber seals. You can leave a soaked rag on the difficult to reach areas for 30 minutes and the bleach will destroy the mildew. After you finish with the scrubbing, run it on the hottest cycle without clothes to wash the bleach from the machine.
When finished, run it through a second cycle with 16 ounces of vinegar and leave the washer on the hottest cycle
When you’re finished, your machine should be clean and as good as new. The best part is, it doesn’t cost you much at all.
