Imagine if you had to go to the hospital but you were unable to give your emergency contact information because of your condition. This could really present a problem, because most hospitals would be unaware of what to do in order to make sure that your loved ones were aware of your predicament.
When you know how to use your iPhone properly, however, you might be surprised with what you are able to accomplish. The iPhone allows you to set up emergency contact information and others can see the information, even if your phone is locked and requires a password.
Most people who are emergency responders are already aware of how to do this and those who work in the hospital are also becoming aware of it as well. It is just important for you to set things up properly in advance. The application on the iPhone to use it is called Health. You would look for a white box with a pink heart in the top right corner. After you open up the health app, look at the bottom of the screen for the menu bar. You will see a medical ID icon in the far right.
Tap on an icon and add your emergency medical contact information. Here is how the dashboard looks. Look for the green arrow to see where you can locate the medical ID icon.
After you are on the medical ID screen, fill in the information that is necessary. Emergency medical responders will be able to access that life-saving information. You can even list important information, such as medical conditions, allergies and any medication you are using.
When you fill out the information, you can access it from your iPhone. You can access it using the information as shown below.
The following information was included in Thompson’s post:
“Working in a public hospital and seeing patients in ED I appreciate many patients come in and we have had no way of knowing who they are or how to contact their next of kin. And their phones are locked!
“But many people don’t realise that you and patients can set up something called a ‘Medical ID’ on your iPhone if you have the health app (free with phone). This information can be accessed even while the phone is locked by clicking on the emergency options and can display things like name, DOB, emergency contacts, medical conditions and even blood type and donor status. You can even add notes.
“It can be managed by clicking on the little ‘Health’ app that comes default on the phone (heart icon and then in the app go to the little star shape with medical ID) and given everyone I have spoken to today has never heard of it it seemed like a social media share kind of moment!
“But don’t simply share it-update yours also!!
“(I believe android have an app called ICE/in case of emergency that works similarly and if you don’t like apps don’t forget the going to the good old fashioned owner information, enter your emergency contact and ‘I.c.e’ as the owner and tick the ‘show owner information on lock screen’).”
Please share this vital information with others
