New Study Proves Washing Dishes, Folding Clothes And Sweeping Leads To A Longer Life

When you’re a child, one of the last things that you want to hear is that it is time to do your chores. Those chores may differ from one household to the next, with some children having to wash the dishes, clean their room or perhaps even do the laundry. The fact of the matter is, it is not pleasant to have to do chores and it doesn’t even get any better when we can older. When you understand the truth about doing them, however, you may realize that it is something that you will want to do.

One of the things that is of interest to everyone, especially when they get older is extending their life in some way or another. We will get some physical activity, eat the right foods and visit our doctor regularly in an attempt to do so. It seems as if it is not only a healthy lifestyle that allows us to live longer, it is also the chores that we do as well.

If you have difficulty going to the gym, and most of us do, you will be happy to know that you don’t have to struggle through that issue any longer. All you really need to do is do some household chores on a regular basis to boost your health and lifestyle. Even light activities, such as sweeping the floor or folding clothes can go a long way in helping you to live a longer life.

Approximately 6000 people participated in the study, with all of them being women between 63 and 99 years of age. The information about their physical activity on a daily basis was collected for a week and then doctors monitored their health for three years.

The results were rather interesting. When women spent 30 minutes on light physical activities around the house, they had a 12% lower risk of death compared to the other group. When a participant would regularly engage in 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity, the numbers were even better. In that case, the life expectancy increased to 39%. This was true of all women, regardless of weight, age or culture.

This finding is rather remarkable because it shows how easy it is for somebody to experience health benefits. Even if they do light physical activity around the home, it can be a benefit. “Doing something is better than doing nothing,” noted the lead author of the study.

Researchers said that the information came from mainly older women but that it is also applicable to younger women. Developing those healthy habits while we are young helps us to maintain them for the rest of our lives.

Other studies also show the link between mortality and stress levels. There is another reason to do your chores. When people wash dishes mindfully, they increase their inspiration by 25% and lower anxiety by 27%. This also can help you to prolong your life.

You really need to focus on the process. If you don’t pay attention to what you are doing, you will not likely experience the same health benefits.
